CHRIS MATTHEWS AND RACKET BALL
Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 7:43AM DEAR HARDBALL:
Will someone PLEASE tell whatever hotshot producer who thought it would be a good idea to keep a goofy Pop music track running underneath Chris's entire Sideshow segment commentary, that it's NOT a good idea? It's damned annoying, and it's now stopped me from watching. It's why I stopped watching Wolf Blitzer. It's why I stopped watching David Gregory. It's why I stopped watching Howdy Doody 40 years ago.
(The latter may have been caused by going off to college.)
Why do you think that we need endless audiovisual injections to keep our attention? Aren't the constantly running sidebars and news tickers and your pop-up network commercial blips enough? Trust me, some of us can focus on one thing at a time without getting bored (providing what you're broadcasting isn't drivel to begin with, and that may well be the real issue here).
Lastly, DON'T TELL CHRIS. I'm sure he doesn't know that he's being outplayed by an undercurrent of cacophonous schlock. If he did, the responsible producer would be playing him/herself off.

I found your journal entry because I was actually SEEKING OUT the theme music for Sideshow. It's bizarre and compelling. While I agree with your argument about stimulus overload (tickers, banners, etc.), when it comes to the Sideshow theme, de gustibus non est disputandum.

Atheistmystic: Thanks for posting. True enough, there's no accounting for taste, but this new presentation has nothing to do with palate. I'd cite Groucho's response to the woman on his quiz show who, when asked about her 8 children, said "I love my husband." Groucho: "I love my cigar, too, but I take it out once in a while."
