NORTH AMERICA -- (DP) Once again, a harsh winter storm may paralyze much of the country today, with the arrival of the first official day of winter.
"Winter weather has hit us again," said Nob Harken, resident of the Northeast corridor, where Nor'easter storms have been known to always frequent at this time of year. "We've lived here all our lives, and this happens every damned time. What's the deal with that?"
The National Weather Service is predicting from five to fifteen inches of snow accumulation in some areas, with possible blizzard conditions expected in a season known for its possible blizzard conditions. "We believe these storms will last until they stop," said one senior meteorologist at the NWS.
"We're beginning to think it best that people just generally expect wintry conditions in winter. This seems to be a developing pattern over the last several thousand years of recorded history."
In a related story, other NWS researchers are predicting that the summer months of 2009 will bring waves of heat, humidity, occasional heavy rains, some thunderstorms, and days filled with extended hours of daylight and a "radical increase in conditions that have always supported boating, swimming and farming activities."
"We'll be tracking these annual warming patterns as they arrive," said Sunny Upshot, a NWS specialist in climatic changes. "The lakes, rivers and ground should thaw, if what we've seen before is any indicator," he added. "We're cautiously optimistic."
Elsewhere in America, this writer says tohellwith the secularists for at least one day a year, and he wishes everyone a Merry Christmas!
Stay tuned.
